Critical Studies - Ingo Maurer

Ingo Maurer is one of Tracy Kendalls Influences for her wallpaper designs. Ingo Maurer is a lighting designer who started off as a graphic designer. Its when he returned back to germany to then start his lighting designs which was very much so influenced by Americas Pop-Art. You can tell some of his work is influenced by Pop-Art as some of them have different coloured bulbs which i think represents the colours found in Pop-Art. I was suprised Tracy kendall uses lighting designs as her influence but you can clearly see her influence as both of thier work is clean cut, simple, Sophisticated and elegant!

Critical Studies - Tracy Kendal

For Critical Studies i looked at the designer Tracy Kendal, She came in some point of First year to give us a lecture but afterwards i have no took the time to look at her work or research her. Tracy Kendall is mostly known for her wallpaper designes, which ranges from huge one off design printed pieces to layered wallpaper of paper, text and objects/details.
She got in to the industary by designing her own wallpaper as she could not find nor afford wallpaper for her kitchen and so printed a huge knife, fork and spoon (as shown in the picture above)
Her inspirations are mostly fashion, with weaves and manipulated fabrics, she also looks at architecture and graphics for influnces as well and shes she looks at two designs and brings them together to get something completely new.
One designer she looks up to for inspiration is Ingo Maurer who is a lighting designer.

Research - Historical Interiors

This is a English wallpaper design from about 1925. It is a design of pine branches with Japanese lanterns hanging off the branches. It is a strong Oriental peice with elements of Chinese as well as Japanese. This style of wallpaper was popular in the 1920's and is a colour machine print.
This wallpaper peice dates back to around late 17th Century about 1976. It is a English Design which gives a strong idea that they are trying to imitate lace work using floral pattern on to a lattice patterned background.

A print style Wallpaper blocked printed on to a blue background with the detailed designs figure scenes and landscapes. datet around the 1760-65. I like the use of colours in this piece, the rich blue and the delicate pink with blue hints running through them, i think it ties it well together and holds the two bold colours together.

Sketchbook Work

Research - Matt Shlian

Matt Shlian is really well known for his work with paper. He creates strong peices of work through paper manipulation and paper engineering. While looking at some of his work i cam across that he also worked alot with drawings and prints.

Research - Jennifer Collier

Jennifer Collier is involved with Textiles and Crafts. She uses natural and fond materials for her work and usually then develops them in to garments and accessories. She uses different methods through out her work like weaving, waxing, trapping and stitching. Her work is supposed to suggest the message about how fragile the body is and about the natural world we live in.
I really enjoy looking at Jennifer Colliers work, i think her pieces of work are pleasant to look at. I like the idea of using found materials and object details as well, i think that could be a idea to play with. I think her work comes across as playful and almost child- like but still has a Elegant and sophisticated appeal to it.

New Designers Influence

New Designers

I went to New Designs July this year to take a look at what type of work students are producing and to see how professional their work presented itself. I was surprised how big New Designers was and how many people there was taking part in it.

While looking around at New Designers i noticed that
there was a lot of work based on paper manipulation and
paper engineering and i think this may be something i will use in my own work to develop further in the future.

Getting the Correct Pantones Without a Mac

If you dont have a mac laptop or computer at home and cant seem to get pantone colours correct on photoshop, dont worry theres hope. All you need is the Firefix internet, if you dont have it its really simple to download. Once you have downloaded it you will notice you can add "add on's" to firefox. On the firefox internet just type in add on colour picker and download it. After its downloaded you will notice at the bottom left hand side of the internet a colour picker tool and if at time you see a colour and you want to know what pantone colour is. simply click on the colour picker icon at the bottom and hover over the colour, you will then notice at the bottom of the internet in the bar there is R, G, B the numbers that come up with R, G, B, 's should be different everytime you hover over another colour.
All you need to do them is get on to photoshop and get the colour pallete up there will then be a R, G, B, colour slide which you can type your own numbers in to, make a note of the R, G, B colours you like and type the numbers in that it comes up with. You should then have the exact match of pantone colour added to photoshop.
